Wound Care

Morgan Medical Center’s Wound Care Program provides outpatient wound care services for patients with acute, chronic, and non-healing wounds. Conveniently located within our Outpatient Clinic, the program offers specialized wound treatment in a comfortable, calming outpatient environment. Care is provided by board-certified General Surgeons and certified nurses who work together to develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical evaluation and best practices.

Meet Our General SUrgeon

Jacob Werkin, M.D.

Dr. Jacob Werkin is a board-certified general surgeon with a passion for connecting with patients and supporting their health and wellness. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Mount Carmel Health in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Werkin currently serves as Department Chair for Morgan Medical Center’s Surgical Services.

Sergio Mejias, M.D.

Accepting new patients.

Dr. Sergio Mejias is a board-certified general surgeon dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered surgical care. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his general surgery residency there. Dr. Mejias has practiced general and colorectal surgery in Athens, Georgia, since 1999 and served as Chief of Surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital from 2016 to 2026. He is highly experienced in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery, with more than 1,000 robotic procedures performed using the da Vinci Surgical System. Dr. Mejias currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at Morgan Medical Center.

Leah Long, LPN, CWN

Accepting new patients.

Leah Long, LPN, CWN, has been a member of the Morgan Medical Center care team for seven years, providing patients with compassionate, quality care.
She currently practices with the Wound Care and Outpatient Infusion teams in the Outpatient Clinics, where she supports patients through ongoing treatment and coordinated care services.
