Swing Bed Program

The inpatient rehabilitation (or “swing bed”) program at Morgan Medical Center is the perfect place for patients to recuperate following orthopedic surgery, stroke or a variety of other medical conditions or surgical procedures requiring hospitalization of three days or longer. The program’s main goal is to provide the time and services a recovering patient needs prior to returning home or deciding to relocate to an assisted living community. In some cases, we can provide services for patients seeking nursing home placement but not quite ready to make the step. Most patients stay in our facility for an average of 14-21 days.

While in our program, patients receive therapy twice daily for a total of 2-3 hours each day. Our rehabilitation team includes physical, occupational and speech therapists and a recreation therapist. Working together with our highly skilled nursing staff, our therapy staff are ready to meet a patient’s medical needs and provide training for family members planning to care for their loved ones at home.

Our new facility offers more spacious amenities, modern indoor and outdoor training spaces and private rooms and bathrooms for a more comfortable, home-like recovery environment.

Since the program is offered within the hospital environment patients have access to laboratory, radiology, and emergency room services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Additional Patient Information

Morgan Medical Center provides skilled nursing care and skilled rehabilitation (including Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT) and/or Speech Therapy (ST) as appropriate for each patient.

These services are provided through our Swing Bed Program.  We have a team of licensed physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists who work together to provide a complete program for our patients.  The team provides therapy 5-6 days a week for up to three hours a day.

A patient’s length of stay is dependent upon patient needs at the time of admission.  Most individuals can expect an average stay of 2-3 weeks.  This time can vary based on a patient’s diagnosis, prior level of function, rate of progress, and discharge plan.
