The hospital is the second facility in the nation to offer the Aurora SPECT/CT System, one of the most advanced nuclear medicine imaging technologies available
Morgan Medical Center is now offering the Aurora SPECT/CT System, one of the most advanced nuclear medicine imaging technologies available.
With this addition, Morgan Medical Center is making a huge leap forward as it expands its Nuclear Medicine services, enhancing its ability to diagnose conditions and help physicians more effectively identify cardiovascular risks and more.
“This technology enables our teams to see more, diagnose earlier, and improve patient outcomes, giving our physicians the ability to detect disease at its earliest stages. We’re extremely proud to be second in the nation and first on the East Coast to provide these next-level capabilities for Morgan County and beyond,” says Ralph A. Castillo, CPA, CEO of Morgan Medical Center.
The Aurora SPECT/CT System combines the functional insights of nuclear medicine with the detailed anatomical precision of CT technology, allowing providers the ability to visualize how organs and tissues are functioning in real time. It produces more precise imaging, faster results, and a better overall patient experience. Whether detecting heart disease early, evaluating bone health, or assessing organ function, this technology gives Morgan Medical Center physicians clearer answers and patients greater peace of mind.
Additional technical details and benefits of the Aurora SPECT/CT System include:
- It is powered by AI.
- The system performs a comprehensive range of nuclear medicine studies.
- It features a larger bore (75 cm) for improved patient comfort.
- The system offers expansive diagnostic capabilities with additional cardiovascular and vascular services, including:
- Non-nuclear exercise stress testing
- Echocardiogram stress testing
- Ankle-brachial index (ABI) studies
“Behind this advancement is an amazing team of our technologists, radiologists, nurses, and support staff,” says Kim Sitzmann, Morgan Medical Center’s Imaging Manager. “They have trained tirelessly to ensure we deliver these new capabilities safely and effectively from day one.”
The hospital’s use of the Aurora SPECT/CT System allows residents in the region extraordinarily convenient access, while further strengthening Morgan Medical Center’s coordinated care.
“For our medical team, this isn’t just about technology. It’s about the lives it will impact,” says Dr. Josh Blackmon, Morgan Medical Center’s Imaging Medical Director. “It’s about the patient who can get a clearer diagnosis without traveling miles away, and the family who can find comfort knowing advanced care is available right here in their community hospital.”
