Acclaimed Community Hospital Promotes Executive Leaders Adam Bedgood and Karen Young

Morgan Medical Center — Morgan County’s acclaimed state-of-the-art community hospital and Level IV Trauma Center — has announced the promotion of two members of its leadership team, welcoming a new era to its evolving history. Adam Bedgood is now serving as Chief Operating Officer (COO), while Karen Young assumes the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) position.

“Our leadership team operates with a collective mission of driving Morgan Medical Center forward as a patient focused center of excellence,” says Ralph A. Castillo, CPA, CEO of Morgan Medical Center. “That vision is engrained in the management philosophies of Adam Bedgood and Karen Young, and all they do for our staff and the hospital at large. It’s an honor to have them take a step forward in their respective positions.”

As COO, Adam Bedgood and a pair of directors help manage the daily operations of various departments, most of which help support patient care. This includes plant operations, environmental services, food and nutrition, laboratory, imaging, pharmacy, the emergency department, and more.

“I have the responsibility of making sure our environment of care and life safety are operating at 100% percent,” Bedgood says, “so that we can continue to deliver the high-quality care our community has come to expect from Morgan Medical Center.”

Bedgood joined Morgan Medical Center in 2016 and most recently served as Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to joining Morgan Medical Center, Bedgood was the emergency department nurse manager at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton, establishing the first accredited Chest Pain Center in a Georgia critical access hospital. His extensive and varied background in healthcare includes working as a flight nurse, overseeing a life flight helicopter base in metro Atlanta. Today he and his family live in Morgan County, where Bedgood also serves as a volunteer firefighter.

Young’s responsibilities as CNO include overseeing the medical-surgical nursing department, the surgery department, all surgical services, the administrative house supervisors, the cardiopulmonary department, and all of risk management. Additionally, she’s responsible for all internal and community-wide education.

“I’m truly proud to represent the community in this new role,” says Young, a Morgan County native. “Morgan Medical Center is a cornerstone here in Madison. Its growth has allowed us to offer many service lines at a larger scale or for the first time in Morgan County, from the stroke program to general surgery to our trauma program. I’m thrilled that we’re able to bring so much to our area residents in their own backyard. And being an active part of that development is very rewarding.”

Having joined Morgan Medical Center in 2019, Young most recently served as Director of Nursing and Risk Management. For more than 20 years, Young has focused on critical care and emergency services. She has held leadership roles in critical care, emergency, ambulatory care, cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, telemetry, and medical-surgical units, and is also a legal nurse consultant for emergency room cases.
