Ashleigh Lloyd, a registered nurse at Morgan Medical Center’s emergency department, has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses. The DAISY Award®, administered by the DAISY Foundation, recognizes nurses who demonstrate unwavering commitment and compassion in their daily patient care.
Ashleigh’s nomination came from a patient’s wife, whose husband was admitted to Morgan Medical Center’s emergency room. The wife was deeply impressed by the compassionate and empathetic care Ashleigh provided to her husband.
“My husband and I were visiting my daughter over the holiday and while we were here, my husband fell. He is 76 and has Alzheimer’s,” the wife explained. “While there, my husband was given medication that, unbeknownst to us, caused him to have an allergic reaction. Ashleigh reacted quickly and helped my husband get through a short, difficult period. Ashleigh could see my husband, as well as me, becoming very scared by the reaction. She told him to hold her hand while she talked him through it. She was so loving, caring, and compassionate, as if it was someone in her own family. I want to say thank you once again to our nurse, Ashleigh Lloyd. She made all the difference to our family, especially not being from Georgia. I feel there is no one more deserving of the DAISY Award than this woman.”
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died in late 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Inspired by the care received from nurses during Barnes’ illness, the foundation seeks to express gratitude to nurses who profoundly impact the lives of their patients and their families.
